Where it all started...

Mark's originally from Portland, Connecticut & Stacy's from Sharon, MA. They now live in the Randolph area where they have their office. Mark recently completed his doctoral studies in psychology and Stacy formerly worked in Rhode Island as a clinical social worker in private practice.

Everyone asks, "How did a social worker and a psychologist, fresh out of graduate school, get into the gourmet snack business?"

Well, we decided to take a chance.  We always loved cooking, shopping in gourmet food stores and living a healthy lifestyle.  Much of our experience in the food industry comes from work we did while going to school, but Mark has a natural flare for cooking.

We needed a break from our professions and without the money for a restaurant we opened a deli rollup cart in downtown Boston.  We became an instant sensation.  Customers waited in long lines, eager to munch on our unique sandwiches rolled in fresh pita bread.  As a special treat, we baked the bread into crispy flavored snacks and handed them out.  Word spread quickly about our chips, and soon came requests to bring them to market.

We thought we were headed for the restaurant industry and never dreamed we would end up in the snack food manufacturing business. We talked about our desire to be in the food industry, but we were already on a path to be human service professionals, it was very hard to take such a dramatic turn. We were very nervous, (and still are) and everyone thought we were crazy. We would be starting with 'one foot already in the hole' because of expensive student loans, but we figured that since we were young, and opportunities like this don't come often, why not take the chance? We did, and so Stacy's Pita Chip Company was born.

Needless to say, people are starting to think we are less crazy. Stacy's Baked Pita Chips are now in gourmet and whole foods markets in 14 northeast states.

We always try to create flavors that taste great while still being healthy. The chips have no additives, preservatives, saturated fat or cholesterol. Mark has spent the year creating and perfecting new flavor combinations. Parmesan Garlic & Herb and Cinnamon Sugar were the starting flavors then Pesto w/Sundried Tomato and Texarkana Hot. Simply Naked (just a touch of sea salt) is the newest flavor. Mark wanted to create flavors that are delicious to eat right out of the bag or complimentary to use with a dip.

We have invested in automatic packaging, which has allowed us to expand throughout the U.S. We have been able lower our costs so we can pass the savings on to the consumer in able to make the chips a healthy snack that people eat every day. With a psychology background, Mark has an ear for listening and we've found that always listening to what customers want is what will keep us on top. Thus far the demand is for Mark to continue to create deliciously healthy and unique flavors.

Stacy is working closely with the stores to demo the chips and talking to local banks, and the SBA. We have received a tremendous amount of help from BankBoston. With what feels like an endless trail of student loans it won't be easy getting the financing to continue to grow, but as long as people keep buying our chips, we're determined not to give up.
